Food file: Stuffed Portobello Mushroom

Remember that sneak peek I talked about on Monday? Well, I was going to post about it today but then I thought that maybe this could inspire you or give you some ideas for your Thanksgiving weekend?  This is something I made up very quickly with ingredients I had in my fridge and it seriously turned out very good, in fact, I had it for lunch for two consecutive days ;)

This is such an easy recipe that I think you can just eye-ball it. Of course, I just made one for me, but if you're making it for more people then start with a can of chickpeas and one cup of quinoa.

What to do:
. Clean your mushrooms (the bigger the better), remove the stem and scrap out the brown gills. Brush with some olive oil and set aside.
. Peel and cut your butternut squash in small squares and place on a baking tray along with the chickpeas. Drizzle with olive oil, sea salt, and pepper and let them roast in the oven for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
. In the meantime, make your quinoa (1 cup of quinoa = 2 cups water). And once the quinoa and the butternut squash and chickpeas are ready, mix them together.
. Fill your mushroom with this mixture and top it with some shaved parmesan. Bake for 12-15 minutes and once ready top it with some baby spinach leaves and enjoy!

* Just a tip: you can also roast the butternut squash and the chickpeas on a pan with the lid on. Just keep an eye on it and toss them around ;)

Tips File: Gift Guide - For Mom

Even though I haven't spent the Holidays with my mom (and my family) in the last couple of years (yes, it sucks!), it doesn't mean that I don't think of her and all the good times we would have celebrating our favorite traditions together: baking cookies, putting up the tree and decorating it, and just enjoying some quiet time at night in the living room with a cup of tea or coffee while contemplating the tree lights (isn't that the best?). I think that moms need the best, and while it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to spend a lot of money (I'm sure that my mom would be as thrilled to receive a photo album filled with photos of Matthew, as much as she would with a nice wallet or watch), it is nice to spoil them, don't you think? Here my picks!

1.  Coach Cashmere Tattersall Scarf: Few things are as luxurious as a cashmere scarf, and this is such a gorgeous color!
2.  Coach Madison East/West Zenra Tote: A little animal print doesn't hurt anyone, and I love how roomie this tote looks. Plus, because it's a fabric tote, it's not overly expensive, yet, you're still giving quite a great gift!
3. Lizzie Fortunato Safari Clutch: Love the delicate print of this clutch, how gorgeous is it? It could easily double up for an ipad sleeve, don't you think?
4. Heather Hawkins Stone Stud Earrings: Stud earrings are always a safe bet!
5. Tory Burch Priscilla Calf Hair Tri-Fold Continental Wallet: Wallets get worn out very quickly, don't you think? So, in my opinion, giving (or receiving) a new pretty one always comes in handy!
6. Banana Republic Leather Bow Glove: Love how the little bows add a subtle touch of femininity to these gloves!
7. Lauren Wolf Jewelry Large Stud Earrings: Love the edgy twist on these!
8. Tory Burch Lotion, shower gel, eau De Parfum: Pamper her with one of these (they have great reviews!) or get her the holiday set ;)
9. Coach Madison Rose Gold Watch: Aren't moms always asking for big dial numbers? There you go ;)
10. Kate Spade NewYork Le Pavillion Snap On iPad Case: Practical but playful!
11. Gigi New York Emerald Uber Clutch: Personalize it with her innitials for a thoughtful gesture ;)
12. Kate Spade New York Le Pavillion Jewels iPhone Case: Fun and glamorous ;)
13. Henri Bendel Sole Ambition Loafer:  How can you go wrong with a classic black loafer, with a striped insole and some cute little golden bows?
14. Clare Vivier Simple Tote: If you're going to spoil her then make sure you go with a classic. She'll have this roomy tote forever.
15. CLARISONIC®  Pedi Sonic: Help her have her own spa day at home ;)
16. Coach iPhone 5 case in zebra print: An exotic little gift!

My life file: Last week's snaps

Enjoying the lightness of mini bags so much! Tory Burch Crossbody Bag (similar, similar), Rebecca Minkoff Leopard Mini Bag

Happy Monday, hope you all had a great weekend! I can't believe it already snowed here in Toronto! Winter is definitely here, it was so cold this weekend. I wish we've had more Fall-ish temperatures, they just lasted like 2 weeks, definitely not enough! Anyway, wishing you all a great week!

Pretty day and pretty light on a morning stroll

White and gold Illume candles at Indigo

Changing up the scheme on my bed, more to come soon!

Leopard nikes!!! Soooo comfortable! If you plan on getting these, size up a whole number, they fit pretty small

Nothing like a hot cup of tea and a faux fur throw (on sale right now) on a cold day ;)

Always so peaceful by the lake, I find it calming.

Cold weather necessities: warm gloves and toque

Food File: Spinach & Quinoa bites

I made this recipe a couple of weeks ago for Thanksgiving and I really like how it turned out. Matthew loved it, and because this recipe is packed with good stuff (spinach and quinoa) it's been a new staple in my weekly cooking ;)

I adapted the recipe from this one and you could totally make it without the bread crumbs, I just thought it would give them a crunchy texture, which it did. I guess it's about personal preference and of course, if you can't have bread then just skip it, they will still turn out good, I've done them both ways :)

What you need:
1 package of Baby Spinach
1 tbsp garlic (about one clove)
1 small onion (chopped)
1 cup cheddar cheese (I like white aged cheddar)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (I used parmigiano)
1 egg
1/2 cup quinoa flakes (I find mine at Whole Foods)
Bread crumbs or grounded nuts (like almonds or pecans) to roll the bites before baking them

What to do:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sauté the onion and garlic with a little bit of butter or olive oil until transparent. Set aside and let cool. Cook the spinach, drain it and let cool.
In a bowl, combine the spinach, egg, cheeses, quinoa flakes, and onion and garlic with some salt and pepper (to taste). If you feel like they need more moisture add another egg, otherwise, using your hands, form small balls and roll them in bread crumbs before placing them on a baking sheet.
Bake for 15-20 minutes.
Enjoy them with some homemade marinara sauce ;)

If there's something I really enjoy, is picking favorites and curating round-ups :) So, first I wanted to start with gifts for her...wondering if I could name this wishlist too! Does that happen to you? When you're looking for gifts for others and you end up liking wanting them for yourself too? As in buying doubles? My life file: Chain Mail

Last week my pal Christin (from With a C.H.) tagged me in this short q&a going around on the web, so of course I had to oblige! Here it goes!

1. Favorite flower? I seriously can't choose just one, I love flowers (I guess this is evident here), but my top 3 would be Ranunculus, Orchids (Phalaenopsis in particular), and Peonies.

2. Most and least organized space in your home? I'm pretty organized, and I really can't function when there's chaos around me, and when things get a little bit out of control it takes me less than 3 days to get it in order before I go mad. But, right now I have to admit that my desk is not looking really pretty (there's a pile of stuff I need to sort).

3. What book have you read recently that really moved you? Well this is embarrassing, I currently have 3 books (Grace a Memoir, Proof of Heaven which I picked up at an airport, and Understanding Exposure) all half way read waiting for me to finish them. And if I let myself into Indigo (loooove bookstores) I'd sure add more to the pile. I need to get my act together!

4. What dish are you most looking forward to at Thanksgiving dinner? We already celebrated Thanksgiving here in Canada, and to be honest I'm not that big of a fan of the Thanksgiving menu (I'm vegetarian). Now, for Christmas I've always looked forward to my grandmother's austrian cookies. She's austrian and she seriously is the best baker I know. I don't know a single person who knows my family that doesn't ask for her cookies during Christmas ;)

5. How do you take your coffee? I'm a green tea drinker. No sugar. Just plain green tea. Though on some occasions I would have it with lemon, ginger and some honey.

6. Thing you miss most about high school? High School? Can we talk about College instead? I would say my friends and those late nights of group studying that always ended up being fun because at the end of the night we were just being very silly.

7. Most memorable concert? This year I saw The Killers, and being one of my favorite bands I have to say that it was a pretty good concert :)

 8. Dots or stripes? Stripes. No doubt about it (see below!)

9. How do you unwind before bed? A hot cup of tea, and some tv on my ipad (the only time I get to watch anything!) I'm currently watching Homeland, Once Upon a Time and How I met your Mother. And of course you gotta love Jimmy ;) I also do my nails before going to bed, I know crazy! But they dry while I watch something.

Ok, so if you feel like answering any of these below, I would love to read about it ;)

With the Holiday season upon us here's a cheat sheet on how to take your day-time look ready for a night out! If you're caught up in one of those situations where there's no time for a whole outfit change, some minor adjustments will get you ready for night-time.  Even if you're wearing a simple white tee, a tuxedo-style blazer, a statement necklace and some sexy heels will sure make you look ready to party! Swap that big tote for a clutch and put on some bright lipstick (or if you prefer a smoky eye) and you're ready to go ;)

Etsy File: New Flower Photos in the Shop!!

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend! I've been working hard for the last couple of weeks to get these up in the shop and last night I finally posted these! I still have more to share, but in the meantime I hope you like these ;)

You may have noticed that the prices went up a little and it's because I'm now printing them in a very high quality paper, it's thick and has some texture, and in my opinion it takes the photos to a whole new level. But, if you prefer photographic paper (and spending less) I still offer that option too (you just have to "convo" me) ;)

Wishing you all a great week!

Outfits File: Bien Fait

Because I'm all about comfort, you'll most likely find me wearing flats, or low heeled shoes and boots. But every now and then, even without an excuse (you know, an event or whatever), I'd wear pieces that I really love just because they make me happy. Not that I'm saying that these J.Crew heels are not comfortable (quite the contrary), but let's say that being a girl who is used to wear mostly flats during the day, they go out of the norm for me. Similar case with this jacket, I love my neutrals, but some days I feel like injecting some color ;)

Wearing: Ray-Ban original aviators / Madewell Bien Fait Tee (sweatsihrt version here)/ Two Penny Blue Ikat Topper (no longer available, this is similar and on sale) / Gap destructed Always Skinny Jeans (love these jeans!) / Tory Burch Bag (similar, similar, similar) / J.Crew Mari Piped Sandals (sold out, but pink and camel are still available)
